Paula Blake-Beckford earned her undergraduate degree at Barry University, Miami, Florida. She is currently completing a graduate program in Mindfulness Studies at Lesley University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has worked as a Registered Nurse in the south Florida region for
Nineteen years. Paula specializes in neonatal nursing and works as a bedside nurse at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Paula’s focus has been to extend her passion for caring beyond her nursing profession and into the community at large. As an immigrant from Jamaica, Paula understands the value of community. She enjoys work that integrates individuals into their community.
She has been trained on the professional track for Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program from the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at the University of Massachusetts. As a faculty member with the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, Paula facilitates resiliency groups for adults and youths in her local community. Her passion for doing this work was born from the migration process, parenting, relationships and has blossomed from her journey through cancer and burnout.
Paula values the wisdom of life’s challenges as she navigates her way in peace and joy. Her resilience practices include prayer, journaling, mindful movement, compassion meditation, vipassana, qigong, and swimming. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and their beloved dog.
