As the daughter of a gastroenterologist, Amy possesses a deep understanding of the importance of patient engagement in improving health, and she witnessed firsthand the sacrifices of a physician in the search for good medicine. With more than 30 years of experience in mission and service-oriented organizations focused on empowering individuals and communities to drive systems change, Amy leads The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) in its mission to ensure the widespread adoption of functional medicine through certification, education, research, partnerships, and advocacy.
Collaborating with healthcare leaders to raise awareness about the importance of furthering the power of interprofessional-patient-centered care, Amy holds leadership roles with the Integrative Health Policy Consortium (IHPC) and serves as co-chair of the newly formed Coalition for Whole Person Health Research. In addition, Amy serves as an advisory board member of the Indiana University Public Policy Institute of the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
Before joining IFM, Amy served in government and nonprofit leadership roles, including as the executive director of Year Up Puget Sound, a nonprofit organization that provides skills training for opportunity youth. She was previously the president/CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound (Washington) and Big Brothers Big Sisters in Forsyth and Davie Counties (North Carolina). Amy also worked in city, county, and federal government agencies, including as the chief of staff for the Corporation for National and Community Service (Washington, DC), the independent federal agency that oversees the AmeriCorps program.
Amy lives in Seattle with her husband, David, their son, Duncan, and their dog, Diesel.
