Dr. Carol A. Penn is a member of the CMBM Faculty and Supervision Team. She leads in-person and online Mind-Body Skills Groups and is involved in CMBM’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative. Certified in Mind-Body Medicine, Dr. Penn is also experienced in CMBM coursework like Food as Medicine.
Dr. Penn is the CEO and Chief Visionary Officer for Penn Global Medical and Well Being, a concierge medical practice where she specializes in helping those living with metabolic syndrome and obesity. She also operates Penn Global Visions, LLC., a health and wellness consulting firm. Dr. Penn has worked in a variety of clinical settings and has served as the Medical Director of several federally-qualified healthcare facilities. Her research centers around neurophysiology of mind-body skills and their application in various different clinical settings and patient populations. She also investigates the application of mind-body medicine to treat intergenerational trauma. Dr. Penn has dedicated 40 years to activism, advocacy, and storytelling, and is a two-time best selling author. Her book Meditation in a Time of Madness and podcast Weightless with Dr. Carol Penn both discuss actionable ideas and real world strategies to educate humanity about healing mind, body, and spirit. Dr. Penn is a dynamic and inspirational speaker who frequently appears on local and national media programs to share information on how mind-body medicine and lifestyle medicine can prevent, reverse, and treat chronic illness. Prior to becoming a family medicine physician, Dr. Penn danced with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and served as a teaching fellow for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Dr. Penn earned her BS in Dance Education and MA in Humanities from New York University, and her DO from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital North Philadelphia Hospital System. Dr. Penn is triple board certified in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and Obesity Medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Penn enjoys writing, choreography, traveling, live theater and performance, and spending time with her family.
