Claire Wheeler, MD, PhD

Claire Wheeler, MD, PhD, is a physician and psychologist living in Portland, Oregon. After practicing Emergency Medicine for several years, she was the Primary Investigator in a 4-year study of the emotional, social, and psychological effects of traumatic injury and stress at the University of Michigan and the Legacy Health System in Portland. She went on to found MindBody Medicine of Portland, providing integrative medical services, including Mind-Body Skills groups, to the public and other health professionals in the Portland area. Claire served as key personnel for a grant from NCCAM to Oregon Health & Science University to integrate mind-body medicine and other integrative practices into the curriculum of the medical and nursing schools.

She is now a faculty member at the OHSU/PSU School of Public Health in Portland, Oregon, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate classes in health behaviors, integrative medicine, and stress. She is the author of 10 Simple Solutions to Stress, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Belly Fat Weight Loss as well as the “Head-to-Toe Happiness” blog on psychologytoday.com. Claire has three grown children who are scattered across the U.S. doing amazing things, and her favorite stress relievers are dancing around her living room and hiking in Oregon’s amazing wild places.
