About the Training

Please note this training is open only to those who completed the initial Professional Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine. Sorry – no exceptions!

Our Advanced Mind-body Medicine Training Program is the second step in the most complete experiential and didactic training in mind-body medicine available — anywhere. It is also the next step as we continue our commitment to working with you on your professional growth and development. This training teaches participants how to use CMBM’s mind-body medicine techniques with individuals, families, and in classrooms. Participants will also learn CMBM’s signature “Mind-Body Skills Groups,” complete with a detailed manual describing each session and discussing solutions to common issues that arise in groups.

After completing Advanced Mind-Body Medicine, participants can start supervision or the Certification process to further enhance their skills as they integrate our model into their work and their lives.

“The Advanced training helped me to identify the path by which I’ll bring this healing work to my community and to myself. This program has changed my life and given me a means to give that change to others.”

Serena Hasworth, MPH
Portland State University, Portland, OR

FAQs

I have lots of experience with mind-body medicine. Can I take the Advanced Mind-Body Medicine training right away?

Advanced Training is opened only to those who completed the initial Mind-Body Medicine Professional Training Program. Sorry – no exceptions!

Can I get the student rate?

We do not have a student rate for this program. If needed, you are welcome to apply for a partial tuition scholarship.

Can I attend half/part of the program?

No. Because this is a training program, not a conference, we ask for a commitment from you to attend the entire training program, including all didactic and group sessions.

What does my tuition cover? Does the tuition include accommodations? How can I reduce my travel costs?

Tuition covers all lectures and lunch during the program. The tuition does not include any other meals or accommodations. Visit the Travel page for information on our discounted room rate (book early to assure availability!)

I need a paper registration to give my employer for approval- what do I do?

Please register online with a minimum $200 deposit. After completing registration you can print an invoice and have your institution send a check. Please make the check payable to: The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and send to: The Center for Mind-Body Medicine, 5225 Connecticut Ave, NW, Suite 414, Washington, DC 20015. We must receive your check prior to the deadline indicated on the Tuition page to avoid your card being charged the remaining balance. Contact payments@cmbm.org if there is a delay in obtaining a check.

Can I register over the phone/fax?

We encourage all attendees to register online in our online registration system (it only takes 5-10 minutes and is secure). If you would like to register by phone, please contact us at (202) 966-7338 x219.

I find your National and Regional work very interesting, and want to become faculty. How do I do that?

Our faculty members for Global Trauma Relief programs are chosen from among our most experienced faculty world-wide. To be considered in the future, the path starts with attending the initial Mind-Body Medicine Training followed by Advanced Mind-Body Medicine and Certification.

Can I purchase conference recordings since I can't attend? Do you have online programs?

Unfortunately, because this training has such large experiential portion, none of it can be taken online or as a long-distance course at this time.

I teach yoga or qigong and would like to teach at Advanced Mind-Body Medicine. Whom do I contact?

Please email mindbody@cmbm.org with your name, a description of your practice, and your CV. You will be contacted if we are in need of an additional teacher.

Workshops and Tracks

Adult Track – If the majority of your work is with adults and you plan to teach mind-body skills to adults after the training, choose the adult track. Both group facilitation and didactic during group will be designed for adults. Note that if you select the adult track, you have the option to add a pre-training workshop to your registration (details below).

1a) Adult Track with Cancer Caregivers workshop – This year we are offering a one day pre-training workshop for Cancer Caregivers on January 23 from approximately 9 AM – 2:30 PM. This workshop will help clinicians and patient advocates to develop programs of integrative care for people with cancer and their families. The cost for this workshop is $139 and includes lunch.

1b) Adult track with Children & Teens workshop
 – If the majority of your work is with adults but you would like to attend the pre-training Children & Teens workshop on January 23 from approximately 9 AM – 2:30 PM, select this option. The workshop will provide an overview of how to work with children and teens using mind-body medicine & includes information on working with traumatized children, children with special needs and with families. The cost for this workshop is $139 and includes lunch and our Children & Teens manual. IMPORTANT: You will participate in the Children & Teens workshop on January 23, but the rest of the training you will participate in our Adult Track.

2) Working with Children, Teens and their Families Track – If the majority of your work is with children and/or teens and you plan to teach mind-body skills to children after the training, you may want to consider choosing the “Working with Children, Teens and their Families” Track. Note that the Children’s & Teen’s track requires participation in a pre-training Children’s Workshop on January 23 from approximately 9 AM – 2:30 PM – the cost for this workshop is $139 and includes lunch & our children’s manual. The focus is on teaching mind-body skills in a child-friendly way, with age appropriate toys and materials that enhance a young person’s understanding of stress reduction and self awareness. As you facilitate your group you will present didactic material in an age appropriate manner.

Unless the majority of your work is with children/teens, we recommend that you take the adult track. If you are interested in working with children/teens in the future or want to be able to use the model with your own children, we recommend that you take the Adult Track and add on the Children & Teens workshop or come back to the Advanced Training for a second time and take the Children’s track. This is not a “fun” or “easy” track, and actually requires both extra didactic preparation and facilitating regular adult group.
