Since 2002, James S. Gordon, MD has regularly visited Gaza, leading an effort to train nearly 10,000 people in techniques to reduce anger, ease family tensions, and give them a sense of control in an environment known for helplessness. Working with local leaders in Khan Yunis, El Atatra, and Gaza City, Dr. Gordon and CMBM faculty have helped disseminate skills and provide support for trauma relief and resilience. “We don’t have the power to change the tragedy they are mired in,” Dr. Gordon told The New York Times during one of his recent trips to Gaza. “But we can help them gain a sense of control so they can look at the world differently.”
