Healing Ukraine’s Nationwide Trauma

October 10, 2022

On September 20, we were proud to announce our 2022 Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action, “Healing Ukraine’s Nationwide Trauma.”

Our Founder and CEO, James S. Gordon, MD, joined fellow global leaders at the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative Meeting in New York City. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined virtually for a discussion with President Bill Clinton about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, during which President Clinton announced our commitment to address the physical and psychological symptoms of trauma by training Ukrainians in our time-tested, evidence-based model.

This June, the first 270 trainees participated in a 2-Day Emergency Seminar (2DES) pilot program. During the training, 35 CMBM Faculty led groups and instructed trainees in practical, evidence-based skills—various forms of meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, and self-expression in words, drawings, and movement—to restore their own physiological and psychological balance as they integrate these tools into their work with the communities they serve.
