Anyieth D’Awol is a member of the CMBM Faculty. She leads in-person and online Mind-Body Skills Groups. Anyieth is dedicated to bringing a national mind-body medicine intervention to South Sudan, and has conducted trainings with South Sudan’s war traumatized population within political, humanitarian, and healthcare structures.
Anyieth is the Founder and Director of the Roots Project, a nonprofit that has supported marginalized South Sudanese women from various tribal groups since 2009. She is also a Co-Founder and Director of Trauma Healing for Remembering the Ones We Lost, an initiative that memorializes South Sudan’s conflict loss in a public online database. She is a founding member of the EveryWoman, Everywhere, which is a coalition of activists advocating for a global treaty to address violence against women. Anyieth’s work has led her to collaborate with the UN, various donor groups, and members of civil society.
Anyieth earned her LLM from the Sheffield Hallam University, UK and her MA in Human Rights Law from the University of Leicester, UK. She has published research on the social and cultural drivers of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Sudan, with a focus on the military and security sector institutions, and human rights research in Darfur and South Sudan. Anyieth has written chapters in books, including, Hope, Pain and Patience: The Lives of Women in South Sudan and A Shared Struggle: The People and Cultures of South Sudan. Anyieth has written articles in publications like African Arguments and Forced Migration. When not talking or thinking about South Sudan, Anyieth enjoys drawing, writing, being in nature, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
