Benefits of Being Certified – Essential Track

CMBM is a recognized leader in the field of mind-body medicine. Since 1991, we have trained thousands of health and education professionals around the globe in the practice of Mind-Body Skills Groups. As our program grew, we wanted to find a way to recognize those who are passionate about our work and would benefit from having the flexibility to incorporate it into their community, institution, or workplace. Our Certification Program – Essential Track does just that.

Program Content

Those interested in becoming Certified in Mind-Body Medicine must first complete the Professional Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine and Advanced Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine. Upon completion of the Professional and Advanced Training Programs, participants are eligible to apply for the Certification Program – Essential Track. After acceptance as a Certification candidate, they must complete the Certification Program – Essential Track requirements. This includes working with their assigned CMBM supervisor to develop a practicum to be approved CMBM, then facilitating 20 hours of planned practicum (through classroom sessions, flexible mind-body skills groups, on-one-one work, retreats, or workshops) with 11 hours of supervision/mentorship, writing a reflective Personal Process paper, and completing a Practice in Action, where they will demonstrate their skills with a faculty leader present. Application, Tuition and Enrollment Policies

Application:

To apply for the Certification Program – Essential Track, complete the 2-part application here. There is a non-refundable $25 application fee. Please prepare the following before you apply:

1. A digital photograph of your face (can be non-professional, taken on phone)

2. A personal essay (Word or PDF format preferred) that includes:

    • Your name, profession, and date of application

    • How you are integrating mind-body medicine in your personal life

    • How you are planning to integrate mind-body medicine in your work/community

    • Challenge you’ve encountered in your work and/or personal life, and how you’ve handled it

    • Your personal strengths and areas of growth

3. General description of planned practicum – how you plan to use the 20 hours of practicum (Classroom sessions, Mind Body Skills Groups (note: flexibility on the size, frequency), One-on-one sessions, Workshops, and/or Retreats). This can be general for now – we will ask for a more specific practicum plan once you are enrolled.

We will review your application and general practicum. Once approved, we will send an official acceptance email with enrollment information and your supervisor assignment. After receiving your acceptance, you will meet with your supervisor for the first supervision session/prep session to develop your practicum plan that you will submit to CMBM for approval before you begin your practicum. You and your supervisor will receive guidance on this upon enrollment.

It should be noted that submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into this Certification program. Entry is based on an assessment of the applicant’s knowledge and understanding of the CMBM model as well as their innate capacity to self-reflect and grow. Although we hope to welcome all who apply, on occasion, we may ask an applicant to spend more time working with the skills before granting acceptance to the Certification Program. Official notice on your application status will be emailed to you within 2-4 weeks after submission.

Tuition:

The Certification Program – Essential Track tuition is $2,950. Those interested in Certification must first complete the Professional and Advanced Training programs. The cost of these two training programs is separate from the cost of Certification. Tuition includes:

    • 11 hours of videoconferencing supervision/mentorship with a CMBM supervisor, including process note review
    • 20 hours of practicum
    • Review & support with Personal Process paper (included in the supervision hours)
    • 2 hours of Practice in Action with feedback from faculty leader

Payment plans of three months ($983.33/month), six months ($491.67/month), and twelve months ($245.83/month) are available. Individual payment plans can be arranged upon request.

Enrollment Terms and Conditions:

The expected program length is 2 years maximum, but many can complete within 6 months – 1 year. CMBM reserves the right to impose additional charges if the program is not completed in the time allotted.

CMBM will not award a Certification – Essential Track diploma unless all the above-described program content/criteria are satisfactorily completed. We are also not able to proceed without completed payments. We set a high standard of excellence for graduates of our Certification- Essential Track Program. CMBM Certified practitioners are recognized as having specialized knowledge in and an exceptional mastery of mind-body group facilitation skills, and we take this seriously. In practice, this means that every year a percentage of the Certification candidates are asked to complete additional work to reach the desired level of facilitation – this might mean completing more practicum with supervision (incorporating feedback received in the Practice in Action). This additional work with CMBM’s support is usually sufficient for the candidate to become Certified. We are noting this here for the sake of being transparent about the process, and to make sure all candidates have the expectation of keeping their minds open, their cup empty, and their learning ongoing.

In an effort to facilitate a positive experience for its program attendees, CMBM reserves the right to remove from attendance and from enrollment at any current or upcoming CMBM event or activity, anyone whose actions, in CMBM’s discretion and judgment, are disruptive or would interfere with the program or the attendees. In such circumstances, CMBM retains the discretion to grant or withhold refunds of registration fees, in full or in part.

Cancellation & Refund Policy:

If you find the Certification Program – Essential Track is not the right fit for you within the two-year maximum period and need to cancel, we are able to refund the full amount minus a $200 administrative fee and any incurred costs (i.e. supervision hours, paper review, or the Practice in Action), you have already completed. We are also flexible if unforeseen circumstances occur and can work with you to put your Certification status on “pause” at any time during the two year period, if you need to do so temporarily. Please email certification@cmbm.org to request this. Up to a one-year extension period may be granted to account for the pause and to complete the Certification program. Refunds will not be available after the participant has reached the two-year maximum period. Participants will only have the option to complete Certification and may be required to pay additional supervision fees.
