The Center for Mind-Body Medicine was founded by James Gordon, MD, in Washington, DC initially serving medical students, inner-city youth, and individuals living with life threatening and chronic illness (including cancer, HIV, and heart disease).
1997

Manifest for a New Medicine Published

Manifesto for a New Medicine by Dr. James Gordon is the foundation of The Center for Mind-Body Medicine and is the first published book to detail the clinical benefits of the mind-body approach for mental, physical, and emotional health.

First Mind-Body Medicine Program Offered

Our unique, ground-breaking, flagship Mind-Body Medicine program offered in Leesburg, VA followed by annual trainings held in cities across the US.

Kosovo Officially Adopts our Model for Community Mental Health Program

The Center for Mind-Body Medicines model of Mind-Body Medicine becomes an official part of Kosovo’s health system and a pillar of its community mental health program.
2005

Gaza and Israel Trauma Relief Programs Initiated

Programs in Gaza and Israel initiated in response to psychological, emotional, and biological stresses during and after regional conflict. Support provided by Charles Feeney, the Founding Chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies.
2007

Healing our Troops Program Founded

Using the same model for population-wide healing used overseas, with training courses for military, VA, and civilian health providers working with US troops, veterans, and their families, Healing our Troups Program was founded.
2009

The Training Center for Mind-Body Skills established in Israel

Offering ongoing training and certification to Israeli clinicians and educators, the Training Center for Mind-Body Skills was established using training from The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Israel.
2008

CMBM's Work Recognized in Breakthrough PTSD Study

Journal of Clinical Psychiatry publishes first randomized controlled trial (RCT) of any intervention with war-traumatized children showing an 80% decrease of PTSD symptoms in highly traumatized high school students in Kosovo.
2009

Dr Gordon honored by Bravewell Collaborative

Dr. Gordon honored as a “Pioneer” in integrative medicine by the Bravewell Collaborative.
2010

CMBM Begins Healing Work in Earthquake-Ravaged Haiti

First Trip to Haiti to train local health professionals following the earthquake. Our Haiti program continues thanks to our lead donor, the deLaski Family Foundation.

Gaza study shows 90% decrease in symptoms of PTSD and significant decreases in depression and feelings of hopelessness in war-traumatized children and adolescents.

Mind, Mood & Food presented for the first time

Our innovative program applying our unique group model mind-body self healing techniques to self-healing through food at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Gordon receives Visionary Award

The Center for Mind-Body Medicine's founder, James S. Gordon, MD receives the Visionary Award from the Integrative Healthcare Symposium in New York and gives the closing keynote speech: "The Healer's Journey"

Over 140,000 children and adults are provided tools for managing trauma after 8 years of service.

Groundbreaking Custom Hospital Wellness Program

CMBM and Eskenazi Health, one of the nation’s largest safety-net health systems, launched a one-of-a-kind self-care initiative, training 200 employees and physicians in stress-reduction, mind-body medicine, nutrition, exercise, and group support.
