Professional Training in Mind-Body Medicine for Cancer Caregivers

May 3, 2018 @ 12:00 am

The Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM) and the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM), in partnership with Ann’s Place, will host the first Professional Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine for Cancer Caregivers (PTPCC). In honor of Susan H. Bowker, this tuition-free program is supported by an independent educational grant from the Susan H. Bowker Irrevocable Living Trust.

This training will provide participants with the science and personal experience that will enable them to teach practical techniques of self-care that directly address the stress that inevitably accompanies a cancer diagnosis. Participants will have the opportunity to experience and practice a variety of mind-body skills including meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, and yoga, and self-expression in words, drawings, and movement in CMBM’s pioneering, educational, and meditative mind-body skills groups. After this four-day training, participants will be able to use the skills they learned with their patients and clients, and their families members, as well as to integrate them into their own lives.

We are humbled to have received an outpouring of applications for this training and we have accepted 100 participants for the funded (tuition-free) spots. Our application process for funded (tuition-free) spots is now closed. Due to the immense interest in this training, we have opened up a limited number of paid spots. To learn more visit our tuition page. Please note that the training is intended for people primarily doing cancer work, if you are not we recommend you wait to attend our Professional Training Program in Mind-Body Medicine October 11-15, 2018.

Participant Selection Criteria

Since space is limited in this tuition-free program, we developed the following guidelines for selecting applicants who will be best positioned to work with institutions, organizations or underserved populations. We have accepted 100 applicants who are:

  • In a position to reach cancer patients or work in Cancer Care, this includes both oncology and other health professionals, administrators of Cancer Care programs, and patient advocates
  • Committed to integrating the approach they learn, where appropriate, in work with groups as well as individuals
  • Eager to participate in the training – engaged, excited, willing to put in some energy
  • Able and interested in learning new skills
  • Open to new ideas, self-reflection and trying new skills
  • Committed to 100% attendance at the 4-day training program
  • Have not attended a CMBM program in the past (applications from alumni will still be considered)
